Average Number of Apps Per Smartphone Jumps 28 Per Cent in the US

Smartphone owners in the US have an average of 41 apps on their device, compared to 32 apps just one year ago, according to a new report from Nielsen. But while the quantity of apps has jumped 28 per cent year-over-year, the amount of time spent on apps each day only increased two minutes from 37 minutes in 2011 to 39 minutes in 2012, the firm found. Moreover, the proportion of time spent on the top 50 apps dropped from 74 per cent last year to 58 per cent today

Smartphone penetration has reached 50.4 per cent in the US and the number of Android and iOS users spiked from 38m in 2011 to 84m in 2012. Nielsen also found that privacy continues to be a concern among 73 per cent of all smartphone users today. Meanwhile, 55 per cent are wary of sharing location information via apps.
